TCCW Participation in Do More 24. May 17-18, 2018
The City Choir of Washington will be participating again in Do More 24. Beginning at 12:00 noon on Thursday, May 17th and continuing for 24 hours until noon on Friday, May 18th, Do More 24 is the DC area’s largest 24-hour online fundraiser powered by United Way of the National Capital Area.
Last year, City Choir supporters who participated in the Do More 24 campaign raised $11,500 in 24 hours, thanks to 132 generous donations. The City Choir’s goal this year is to increase the number of donors and raise at least $15,000. These funds will enable us to produce another spectacular season of choral music. Starting in November, the City Choir will be performing a concert on November 11, 2018, the 100th anniversary to the day of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. Featured in this special commemorative concert “A Farewell to Arms” is music by composers who were all deeply affected by the Great War. On January 6, 2019, we celebrate Twelfth Night and showcase another great local high school choir. On March 10, 2018, the City Choir will perform Messe Solennelle by Jean Langlais and the Mass, Opus 60 by the
beloved Washington DC composer, Russell Woolen. Our fourth concert on May 19, 2019 will celebrate Spring with a concert of Come, Ye Sons of Art by Purcell, Regina Coeli, K. 276 by Mozart and the Kyrie and Gloria movements of J.S. Bach’s monumental B minor Mass.
In addition, these funds will ensure that our outreach chorus, the City Singers, can continue to bring music to those unable to attend our concerts, such as wounded American soldiers at
Walter Reed, hospitalized children at NIH, and those residing in senior centers and homeless shelters throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.
